Haiti Gift Box Project

ALTERNATIVE CHRISTMAS GIFTS

During the Christmas season Outreach sponsors an ALTERNATIVE GIFTS campaign for Haiti. These Christmas gifts last longer than the holiday season and have a significant impact on improving the life of someone else. The gifts for the students of the La Croix New Testament Mission Schools are:

  1. TREES FOR THEIR REFORESTATION PROGRAM,
Haiti is the most impoverished nation in the western hemisphere. One of the major economic problems is reforestation. Trees that once covered this Caribbean Island were cut down over the years and used as fuel. Now much of the land is barren and eroded and no longer lush with vegetation. At the La Croix Mission, Pastor Pierre has begun to change things. He has a program in place to grow fruit and shade trees and distribute them by grade level to children in school. The children are given a tree and are taught how to take care of it. The gift can be a shade tree or a fruit tree. The children develop pride and responsibility through this project and the land is improved and fruit is provided for food.
  2. FOOD FOR SCHOOL LUNCHES and
There are 3500 students who attend and are fed daily in the schools that Pastor Pierre runs. Out of this number only about 800 are currently sponsored. General funds are needed to feed the rest of the children. A gift of any amount of money for food given in the name of the person for whom you care is a great tribute to that person and would help make the lunches spread a little further. Of course you could always elect to sponsor another child for only $240 a year. What a bargain!
  3. ENROLLMENT OF ORPHANS OF AIDS AND OTHER DISEASE AT THE LA CROIX MISSION SCHOOLS.
Recently Pastor Pierre has identified 400 children who live near the Mission who have been orphaned by Aids and other disease. He is trying desperately to feed and educate them. It costs $100 per student to enroll them in the school program and give them shoes, books and a school uniform. A gift in the name of a friend or loved one makes such a difference in the lives of these orphans.
