Haiti Mission Update
March 2007
Things are getting better at La Croix and the surrounding areas.
Most of our sponsored children have been measured and photographed and, with a few exceptions, they are well and smiling. While a lack of good, nutritious food is still a major problem, the starvation witnessed in earlier years has greatly diminished, and the general health of the children is improving.
The coconut and banana fields are thriving, and the reforestation program is taking root (literally).
Pastor Pierre now operates seven schools, some in concrete buildings with lights, blackboards, and indoor toilets, while others are just thatched huts. More than 3,000 children are served one meal a day at the schools. Imagine 700 elementary school children lined up in single file to attend chapel — it’s an amazing experience!
The birthing clinic is almost ready with only wiring and plumbing to be completed. The walls are up for the medical residence, and the floor is poured. The new truck had its maiden voyage to the mountainous outpost of Le Coup with a full compliment of volunteers who conducted a day-long medical mission. They screened 134 pregnant women for malaria and syphilis, with only 3 cases of syphilis discovered. This is a real joy and shows how much healthier the women are than just a few years ago.
Please pray for Pierre, the kids, and for that country which suffers so much distress. Anyone desiring more information on how to get involved and become a part of this soul warming mission should contact Beth Roncase, Stan and Sue Billings, Jack Metcalfe or any Outreach member.
