Reverend Marion N. Silbert

Background
Marnie, as we call her, is also a native of Western Pennsylvania, having grown up near the airport. She has been serving Newlonsburg and living in the Murrysville area for over 25 years. Her daughters Kate and Hannah grew up in the church and are now college students who are engaging the adventure of life in delightful ways.

When not in the midst of ministry, Marnie enjoys handwork, a little gardening, reading a good book, singing as part of a 4 part choir or engaging in a good intellectual discussion.

Rev. Silbert is a graduate of the University of New Hampshire (B.S. Botany and B.A. History, 1976) and Princeton Theological Seminary (M.Div. , 1982). She also holds her certificate in Youth Ministry from Princeton Seminary.

I Believe
Our God is an awesome God known to us best in Jesus Christ my Lord and Savior. God is also revealed in the wonders of creation and in the power and everyday workings of the Holy Spirit. As much as God is known, we can never fully know God. But I believe God is a God of love; patient, steadfast, and merciful; who trusts and hopes that we the church will be God’s witness to the world of that great love and amazing grace. We provide that witness as we faithfully worship, nurture God’s people in care and through study, and go out into the world near and far to serve in Christ’s name. Each of us are called to respond to God’s grace this way and at the same time the church together is called to respond this way.

As much as each person is a child of God created with uniqueness, so the way we each hear and respond to Christ’s call varies. Listening to each witness enriches faith and Christian community. Those witnesses include the testimony of Scripture, the faithful of former generations as well as out own and continuing to the youngest children in our midst.

Everyday is a gift and I believe every time the choice between life and death is set before us, God hopes and calls us in fact to, “Choose life!”
